There are heaps of great games for 8 year old boys as this is the age where a lot of games start their age recommendations. The list below comprises of games that I feel are most suitable for boys who are 8 years old and is a healthy mix if classic favorites and new games. I hope this list gives some good inspiration for anyone looking to give board games as a gift.
Sushi Go
Number of Players: 2-5
Time: 15 minutes
Pricing: Low
Sushi go is a fun strategy card game where players are trying to collect certain types of sushi to maximize their sushi points. It encourages formulating different strategies and risk assessment in its gameplay and can be used as a learning tool for these skills. The art is a fun Japanese anime style and while it may appear more on the feminine side, I feel this is too good a game to discredit it for boys on the basis of aesthetics. Highly recommend.

Sequence
Number of Players: 2-12
Time: 30 minutes
Pricing: Medium
Sequence is a strategy based board game where you want to place your marker 5 in a row, similar to connect 4 but more complex. When you play with more than two players you form 2 or 3 teams with the end goal being to create sequences before the others. This is a great game to play as a family as the parents and kids can team up and makes the game play feel fairer. The strategies can get a little advanced but is also a great way to push 8 year olds to be more strategic in games.
Clue (Cluedo)
Number of Players: 3-6
Time: 45 – 60 minutes
Pricing: Medium
Clue (Cluedo outside America) is a classic board game about solving the murder of Mr. Black in his mansion. You play as one of 6 characters who collect clues by visiting rooms and making accusations. This was one of my favourite board games as a child and I believe that the game still holds up to this day. There has been many editions and additions to the base game but the core concept and rules remain the same. Would highly recommend this game for any 8 year old boy.
