Best Board Games for 8 year old Girls

8 Year olds are the perfect age to start playing the games that most adults play. This list starts with the classics that I know 8 year old girls can pick up fairly quickly and are great games to build skills in strategy and arithmetic’s in preparation for harder games that they can play when they get older. This list sticks to the main classic board games that I feel most kids should play at least once since they are very likely to play them more often as they get older.

Sushi Go

sushi go review

Number of Players: 2-5

Time:

Pricing: Low

Sushi go is a fun strategy card game where players are trying to collect certain types of sushi to maximize their sushi points. It encourages formulating different strategies and risk assessment in its gameplay and can be used as a learning tool for these skills. The art is a fun Japanese anime style and while it may appear more on the feminine side, I feel this is too good a game to discredit it for boys on the basis of aesthetics. Highly recommend.

Sequence

sequence board game review

Number of Players: 2-12

Time: 30 minutes

Pricing: $15-20 USD

Sequence is a strategy based board game where you want to place your marker 5 in a row, similar to connect 4 but more complex. When you play with more than two players you form 2 or 3 teams with the end goal being to create sequences before the others. This is a great game to play as a family as the parents and kids can team up and makes the game play feel fairer. The strategies can get a little advanced but is also a great way to push 8 year olds to be more strategic in games.

Clue (Cluedo)

clue review

Number of Players: 3-6 (better with 4-5)

Time: 45min-1hour

Pricing: Medium

Clue (Cluedo outside America) is a classic board game about solving the murder of Mr. Black in his mansion. You play as one of 6 characters who collect clues by visiting rooms and making accusations. This was one of my favourite board games as a child and I believe that the game still holds up to this day. There has been many editions and additions to the base game but the core concept and rules remain the same. Would highly recommend this game for any 8 year old girl.
