Best Board Games to play while in Quarantine

With many of us being told to stay at home during this global pandemic I thought it would be a nice time to create a list of board games that are sure to keep you occupied while we wait for the time when we can all go back to work. This list has a variety of games suited from families to keep the kiddies busy to young couples looking for something else to do other than Netflix and chill. So without further ado, here is my list of best board games to play while in Quarantine.

1 Pandemic

A little on the nose yes, but what better way to pass the time than to play a board game literally about fighting a pandemic? The cooperative nature of this game makes it great to play as a couple or as a family. This is also one of those rare games that you can also change the difficulty of depending on who you are playing with. This flexibility makes it a great chose to play with both kids and hard core gamers alike. This Quarantine, fight the pandemic and save humanity from the comfort of your own home!

2. Gloomhaven

This game is definitely more for the serious gamers out there. But if you are even remotely interested in dungeons and dragons and more fantasy inspired board games I cannot highly recommend this game enough. It is essentially like playing a full campaign in D&D with no Dungeon Master. This coupled with the literal hundreds of hours of content this game has to offer means that you will be set for entertainment as far as board games go in quarantine. Even though it can be a single player game I definitely recommend playing with at least one extra person to bounce battle strategies off and to talk about decisions you must make during the campaign. It certainly comes with a hefty price tag but in my opinion it has been one of the best value for money games I have ever purchased.

3. Clue (Cluedo)

For my third pick I chose to go with a classic. Clue is a great family board game that I have literally played for hours on end with my own parents back when I was younger. I has great replayability and I have always felt that kids and adults are somewhat on a level playing field which is great for family games. I know that some families will prefer Monopoly and that’s okay too, but for me, Clue has always been my favorite of the classic board games (especially because the games don’t take 5 hours and I don’t want to kill my sister when she takes the last red property I needed!).

4. Castle Panic

Castle panic is another great cooperative game with high replay value to play during quarantine. You and your friends must work together to defend your castle against hordes of ogres and goblins. It’s fairly simple mechanics wise but without good cooperation the game is very hard to win. This is the perfect game for siblings to play as it forces them to work together instead of against each other like so many other board games for those age brackets. Even as an adult I still find a lot of joy in playing a game or two with my partner, especially since it’s not a good idea to get into a fight over a board game when we can’t escape each other.

5. Ticket to Ride

For my last pick on this list I have to go with ticket to Ride. My partner and I love this game series so much mostly due to its vintage art style and chill game mechanics. It’s what we always fall back on when we can’t decide what game to play. It’s great for both kids and adults alike (especially for any train lovers out there like me). If you are looking at which one to start off with I would recommend getting the Europe map as it feel that has one of the best maps of the series and the inclusions of stations make it a little less stressful for those trying to complete routes.
