Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. I love the autumn atmosphere, the colors, the smells, the weather, there is few other times of year that I feel so happy and so inspired. It just so happens that there are also a heap of great scary board games to compliment this oh so scary time of year. These are in my opinion the best horror board games to play with family and friends this Halloween.

Betrayal at House on the Hill
Players: 3-6
Time: 60 minutes
Cost: High
As I have stated before on this website this is one of my favorite board games off all time. The board game is dripping with atmosphere and the 52 horror inspired scenarios are a devilish delight to experience. While not all scenarios are balanced equally, they all have that classic horror movie flair that makes this game such a great experience from a role playing perspective. I would highly recommended Betrayal at house on the hill to play this Halloween.

Clue (Cluedo)
Players: 3-6
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: Medium
Clue is a great classic board game to play this Halloween. Trying to solve the mystery of Mr. Black’s murder is always a fun puzzle to try and solve before the other players. While less of a horror board game than it is a detective board game, the rich history and themes of the original Clue more than qualify it as a Halloween board game in my books.
One Night Ultimate Werewolf
Players: 3-10
Time: 10 minutes
Price: Medium
If you are looking for a bluffing horror themed card game to play this Halloween then One night Ultimate Werewolf is the game for you. It’s a game that pits the villagers against an unknown amount of werewolf enemies who are in turn trying to shift the blame from them onto an innocent villager. This is a great quick card game that is great for those larger groups of friends to play together.

Pandemic
Players: 2-4
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: High
It’s you and your team against the game in this epic battle for the survival of humanity. In the game Pandemic there is only one way to win and many ways to lose as you try to work together to cure all the diseases before it’s too late. While not strictly horror in theme Pandemic definitely gives me that apocalyptic/end of the world vibe that I definitely associate with Halloween.

Gloom Card Game
Players: 2-4
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: Medium
Have you ever wanted to play a card game where the entire premise is to make your family as miserable as possible and then kill them? Well if so get some help but in the meantime do I have the game for you! Gloom is a horror card game where the object of the game is to make the members of your respective families as miserable as possible and then kill them for more points while trying to make other players families as happy as they can be. With its classic Tim Burton art style and dark Gothic themes Gloom is the perfect card game to play with the family this Halloween season.
Arkham Horror
Players: 1-8
Time: 2-3 hours
Cost: High
Arkham horror is a cooperative board game that is set in the 1920s. You play as one of 16 investigators who are trying to work together to stop the gates opening and the rise of a great monster. This is definitely among the more intense board games on this list but it is well worth the time and energy to play as I have never felt so on edge while playing a game of this magnetite. Arkham horror is certainly one of the best horror board games that you can play this Halloween.
Mysterium
Players: 2-7
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: High
Mysterium is a cooperative mystery board game where the players are trying to figure out what happened to a silent ghost before they passed. One player acts as this poor unfortunate soul who can only communicate through sending visions to the other players. These psychic players are trying to form these clues together to help them reconstruct the events that led up to the ghost’s demise. This is a great Halloween board game that places emphasis on the spooky atmosphere and your ability to read and understand clues that the ghost gives. I definitely recommend it this spooky season.
Finding the best Halloween Board Games
And those are my current favorite horror board games to play this Halloween. While there are not all strictly horror in theme they all give me that shot of spooky spirit that I love during the this time of year. Let me know of there are any Halloween board games that I have missed so I can look them up myself and potentially add them to this list! Stay Spooky!
