Best Board Games for Kids

Top 10 Board Games for Kids

I have gone through hundreds of emails, data, review sights, and even my own personal experiences to create this list of the best board games for kids. I have no kids myself, but I do have a few nieces and nephews. I have tried all of these board games with them and have taken their feedback on board (after all, if the kids don’t enjoy it, whats the point?).

Of course this list doesn’t take into account your own personal preferences and experiences, so look at it more of an overall review of what games for kids already exist. In saying that, all these games are great and are tones of fun.

1 Don’t Step In It

Dont Step in It Game for Kids

This is a fairly straight forward game where the main goal is to get to the end, stepping in as little poop as possible!

Admittedly as an adult I found this a little less enjoyable, but to the kids there was just something so exciting about stepping in poop that they kept playing long after I was pooped-out.

This is a great game for kids at a birthday party. Full Review.

2 Guess Who

Guess Who? is a game where two players try to guess each other’s chosen character based of asking simple yes or no questions.

This is a fairly simple game, great for young kids, and is fairly quick to play. Guess Who? Is a stable of children’s board games and still holds up to this day.
This is a good one on one game for kids.

4 Sequence

sequence board game review

Sequence is a strategy based board game where you want to place your marker 5 in a row, similar to connect 4 but more complex.

When you play with more than two players you form 2 or 3 teams with the end goal being to create sequences before the others.
Great inoffensive game for the whole family.

6 Munchkin

munchkin board game review

A munchkin is a person who tried to win a fantasy game through collecting the best weapons and loot. Munchkin, the game, takes that concept and uses it in its satirical take on the fantasy genre in this ridiculously fun card game.

This game is the perfect birthday presents for 10-15 year olds who love to play video games.

Be prepared for monopoly level fights in this hi-action game.

7 Clue (Cluedo)

clue review

Clue (Cluedo outside America) is a classic board game about solving the murder of Mr. Black in his mansion. You play as one of 6 characters who collect clues by visiting rooms and making accusations.

Clue (Cluedo) is one of my favorite games for playing with family. Its simple mechanics, fun characters, and long history make it a staple in any board game collection.

8 Catan Junior

Catan Junior is a simplified version of the regular Catan that is great to play with younger kids from 6-10 years old. In this game you are pirates with ships and lairs trying to take control of the resources over the board.

If you are a parent wanting to get your child into more European styled-board games, Catan Junior is a great gateway board game.

9 Ticket to Ride: First Journey

Ticket to Ride: first journey is the kid adaption of a popular European style board game called ticket to ride. This game differs from the original with a smaller map and a faster game time.

This is a great game for any kid who loves trains and is a great way to start teaching them about geography. It’s also the perfect game to Segway kids into the more serious board games.

10 Connect 4

Connect 4 is another classic board game where two playes play a colored version of tick-tac-toe, trying to get 4 of their colors in a row.

The rules are fairly simple, but the difficulty of the gameplay is determined more by the skill level of the other player than any other factor. It’s fairly inexpensive and is great to keep kids occupied for a while.
